My Left Booby

I know I haven't blogged for weeks so here's the latest.

On August 21 I had my left boob removed due to "non-invasive" cancer, along with 2 lymph nodes. And a new boob (implant) was put in it's place. I stayed overnight in the hospital, which was considered "outpatient" according to the insurance company which is all they will pay for. If anyone gets the chance, go to Lifetime.com (the tv station) and sign the petition they have going about "drive by masectomies". It seems that some women only get day surgery and never get to stay in the hospital at all. This type of coverage is becoming more and more the norm with insurance companies where yourself or a family member is expected to give you professional nursing care after your surgery. Next thing you know, organ transplants will be considered "outpatient" care. It'll be likened to having a tooth pulled.
This really pisses me off that so many have to suffer for this and the insurance companies seem to deem themselves the professionals in charge of how much (or how little) care we receive. When I had my children (both by c-section) I spent a week in the hospital. I could hardly walk or stand up straight. Today, a c-section will get you MAYBE 2 days in hospital. Never mind that it usually takes 2 or 3 days for anything to appear with a newborn.
Of course it's ridiculous to pay such high premiums for such lousy service and the hospitals that are "for profit" charge so much it borders on evil.

I think we could all benefit from some type of charging "cap" by hospitals and have some sort of socialized plan so people even with insurance could afford to pay the bills. Which is another thing: The hospital's billing department wastes no time in calling and asking when you plan to pay the bill......they too have no consideration for the sick and recovering (or dying). They just want their money.

I wish I had slipped over the border illegally so I could get free medical care whenever I needed it. Maybe that's another way we could cut down on exorbitant costs that legal residents have to pay. Just let the border patrol do their jobs and keep the illegals out. Period. No excuses. Maybe then we won't have to foot the bills for them and we could afford decent health care and post surgical care.

So rants Amma today.

I am glad everything went well so far. I will definatly sign that petition. I guess I am lucky in that my insurance covers 96 hours after my c-sections. I can't imagine leaving after less than that. Keep healing and I will be thinking of you:)
